The Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHP) situated in Clondrohid, Co. Cork which is owned and operated by Cork Green Energy was constructed in 2019 and commissioned in January 2020. As the name suggests, Cork Green Energy’s CHP plant delivers the simultaneous production of electricity and heat and uses state of the art energy efficient technology to generate electricity and heat, compared to the traditional power generating methods.
Cork Green Energy’s CHP plant is powered by biomass which is a green energy and carbon neutral (replanting the trees that were used in the process absorbs the same carbon that was released in the combustion process, thus contributing to its carbon neutral properties).
Cork Green Energy produces 1.2 megawatts of green electricity per hour, which is supplied directly to the national grid.
